The Vortices are a race of magical living whirlpools. According to legend, these monsters arise out of the choppy seas of the northern ocean in wintertime. They continue thriving and storming off the coast year round, making shipping through the area next to impossible.
Vortices move at a moderate speed, and have two attacks:
- Vortex
- Vortex Flower. The Vortex will summon eight whirlpools around its location which remain stationary for a few seconds, after which they disappear.
Expectedly, Vortices can only be harmed by Magic, though by this time the player may have picked up the Chaser spell, which will clear the screen pretty quickly.

A Maelstrom rages several times more furiously than a standard Vortex. As a result, it is much harder to dismantle.
