There are six different elements in Ginormo Sword: fire, water, wind, earth, light, and dark. Three of the elements have opposing relationships with the other three: fire and water are opposites, and so are wind and earth, as well as light and dark. Being aligned with one element is the same as being weak at its opposite, so +Fire is equivalent to -Water, and so on.

Every enemy in the game (except Dark Mist) is aligned with a particular element, and most enemies in the same family have the same element. Enemies are weak to the element opposite their alignment (e.g. Efreet, is aligned with fire, and so takes extra damage from a water enchanted sword). Most enemies take 1x extra damage from their weakness but a few will take more, namely Efreet (5x from Water), Lizard Assassin (10x from Fire), and the Avatar (500x from Dark).

Every battle also has an element. The element of a battle determines the bonus HP gained from Armor elemental attributes. For example, the battle with Yggdrasil is Wind elemental, so the player gains 10 max HP per Wind armor attribute (or loses 10 max HP per Earth armor attribute).

Each of the six elements has a corresponding jewel that can be used to enchant weapons and armor with that element. Most enemies drop a jewel corresponding with their element.
